Scamozzi Capitals
are of the Ionic Order however they have 4 scrolls or volutes rather than
the elongated tubular scrolls of the traditional Roman Ionic. The
style was created by architect Vincenzo Scamozzi in the late 1500's in
the Republic of Venice and thus named accordingly after Scamozzi
himself.
He recognized that the traditional Ionic capitals could not overcome the
design dilemma of building corners, thus the 4 Volutes were the
solutions.
Columns with a Scamozzi capitals should have an Attic
base.
Composite
capitals are made from molds
and are
decorative only - hollow and not load bearing. The load from the lintel
should be supported by the column's shaft attached directly to the
lintel. The bottom of the shaft should be affixed to the substrate to
avoid lateral movement.
Imperial
does offer load bearing Composites that have an integrated load ring.
Loads can be up to 20,000 lbs
